I was wondering if I can use Fight Bac on my does. What if they have kids nursing? I would be separating the kids at night and milk the does in the morning then return the does with the kids. Obviously the kids are gonna try to nurse as soon as I put the doe back in with them, can the Fight Bac affect the kids? Should I wait until the kids are weaned? Also, I apply bag balm after milking cause all the washing was chapping the udder a bit, do I put bag balm on then spray the teats? :idunno

Using dip is such a pain! Any other recommendations are welcome!

Any advise on the Fight Bac it greatly appreciated!

I use Fight Bac and milk my does with kids. I just make sure the Fight Bac is dried before putting the does back in with their kids.

I've not had any problems, or seen any reaction from the kids, and have been doing this for two kidding seasons, going on the third kidding season now.

I get my Fight Bac directly from the company. It is cheaper that way and they seem to be nice people.

I'm glad someone answered your question because I did not know the safety of using when dam raising kids.

But, I will offer this. We don't use Fight Bac as a standard operating procedure when we milk our goats here on our little "hobby" farm. We just clean with a warm wet cloth. We don't have tons of experience, but we have a number of 5, 4 and 3 year old does. We've never had a single case of mastitis.

But, we do use it when we milk our animals at shows. We have a vet friend who breeds and shows goats but doesn't specialize in treating goats in his practice. He's not our normal vet who treats our animals. He follows the same protocol. I'm not necessarily focused on being "organic" but I do worry about breeding resistant bacteria.

Do you use an electric pulsating mechanical millking machine?

Thanks for the info! After further discussion with some friends, I decided not to use it until the kids are weaned. After that I may use it. We have never had a case of mastitis, but for a few dollars it is IMO worth it.
