Hi my name is Nicole! 6 months ago my family moved onto 400 acres of rural property to get living our dreams. My husband will be doing the gardening/crops end of things, I will be taking care of all our animals. We are jst starting out and recently acquired 12 chicks, 4 hens, and my babies, Thelma & Louise. And boy do those names suit them!

My twins were born Jan 11 and came home to me March 24. My 3 yr old daughter adores them and "clicker" trained them in an hour all on her own. Verrrry helpful.

My plan is to eventually breed and milk these girls. And next year I will be adding a LaMancha. I figure with the 2 different goat breeds Ill have more options of goat milk products to make.

My only grrrrr....my girls came to me infested with lice!! Ewwww!! Poor babies. But we're treating and it seems to be getting better. In the mean time, Im ok throwin my gloves on to give them some love scratchin. Lol

Id love to hear from anyone regarding raising the pygmys & lamanchas...especially different uses of their milk

Thanks for having me!!

Another 'howdy' and WELCOME from Texas! I have raised pygmy goats for a long, long time and I've gotta tell you this..... Pygmy milk is the most delicious thing you will ever taste. I have Nubians also, and even though their milk is GOOD - Pygmy milk wins the taste test hands down!!

Another bonus with Pygmies is that they breed year round so you should be able to have a year round supply of milk. Good things really do come in small packages! :)

Thanks frustratedearthmother! I am curious however....I was looking at my little Thelma and I noticed on.of her teats is like...a double teat? Will this affect milk production?

It won't necessarily affect production, but it could have some consequences. I copied this from the NPGA website and it explains it better than I can.

"Bifurcal teats (also called double teats) refer to teats which are fused along their length. These teats are usually split for a short distance near their tips and the shaft of the teat is wider than normal. There should be no confusion between multiple orifices and bifurcal teats. Bifurcal teats are a disqualifying fault. They are more serious than multiple teats since more udder health problems may occur with double teats. When the teats fuse, there is sometimes a flap left in the teat canal which makes hand milking or nursing difficult or impossible. Other times the teats fuse so that each teat drains milk from separate sections of the udder. More mastitis would be seen as a result of improper drainage of milk from all the udder."

Here's the link....it has some pictures you might want to check out.
