You're not alone. I'm just lurking! I'm in Jackson and have Alpine goats, quail, layers and meat chickens.
If you're looking for goats I have some for sale. If you're not quite ready, there's a goat show on Aug 9th at the state fair in Augusta. Judging starts at 9:00. You might want to check it out! :)

Hiya! lol thanks for coming to my rescue haha! I'm just now starting to look for goats but I was looking for nubians or nigerians. You're the perfect person to tell me the advantages of alpines! I was told sometimes Alpine milk tastes off and can be hit or miss? Please educate me! thats why I'm here :) I could lay money I'll be at the goat show in Augusta :woot

I like my Alpines because, although they can be stubborn, they aren't as noisy as Nubians and have better milk production than Nigerians. However, everyone has their own tastes in breeds, just like some people like Poodles and some like Labs! I have one Alpine that seems to have slightly off flavor milk, but that can be used for cooking or something else, like soap making. Most of mine have delicious, sweet milk. If you are looking for Nubians, I have a friend who will be at the show who has them. Nigerians and Nubians are both very easy breeds to find in NJ. A lot of people have them. There is also a group called the Garden State Dairy Goat Association you may be interested in joining. The folks from that organization will also be at the show. :)

Definitely will check them out, thanks! So Nubians are the noisy goaties of the bunch huh? lol good to know. In my dream-goat world, I'd have one Alpine (in my mind this is what "a goat" looks like lol), one Nubian (love the ears), two dwarf Nigerians (for the high butterfat), and a fainter - just because they amuse me so much lol :) In reality I'm hoping to find a couple of healthy, friendly goats - at least one of which I can milk. Goats that have more experience milking than I do would be preferable haha...

I think just one Alpine doe would prob make enough milk for us. So then I'd need a wether or another girl (maybe a Nigerian - that would work!) to keep her company... How much milk do your girls produce?

Also do you have any experience or opinions about Toggs? And do you mind me picking your brain about all this? :)

I don't mind at all! :) I'm not the ultimate authority but if I don't know the answer to a question I'll tell you!
And I don't know much about Toggs. LOL!!! (although I think they're gorgeous!)
I was at a friend's farm this morning and she has two Nubians in milk. They are for sale and one is producing almost a gallon a day. Check you Private Messages and I'll send you some info.

Hi Erschrack!
I'm in Jackson. I have laying chickens, meat chickens and Alpine goats. Be forewarned... decide how many of these animals you want and then double (or triple) it. That's what you'll end up with! LOL!!!
