If you can find a good source for bulk grain you can make your own feed grain, and even save on alfalfa. I got a chipper/shredder from harbor freight. (the gas one) It works like a hammer mill. Also get a cement mixer and you are set. 4 five gal buckets of grain and 5 lb of Milk Plus pellets. I mix 2 parts peas, 1 part wheat, and 1 part barley, all ground first in the shredder, add to mixer, and 1 cup+ of DE and you have feed. It is about $6 per 50 lbs. You could use other grains depending on what you can get. Also the shredder will chop up alfalfa stems and all. They, the goats, don't waste as much when its ground up.
