I'm wondering the same thing. Are there little milking machines (like breast pumps?) Or is it better, if I'm only going to milk one, to do it by hand...err..fingers?

The udderly ez has a hand pump. It works really great with our Nigerians. But, if you are only going to milk one, I would probably milk by hand (or fingers :))
Right now we have 5 that have no kids on them that we are milking twice per day. We have another 4 who still have kids that we milk some too.

Your fingers! :)

I know those lil' teats can be hard to milk, is she a FF? Usually after a week or so you will get the hang of it. Don't be to upset if most of the milk runs down your arm instead of the pot!

By her next freshening you will probably be able to milk her with ease! :)

First Freshener. It means it's the first time she has had babies and her first time in milk.

And why is that different? (Other than total lack of experience?)

As they mature and freshen each time, their udder capacity and milk production increases. Their teats may also get a little larger. Nursing kids can also stretch the teats. They will increase in capacity and production each time until around 5 years old and 5 freshenings, and then it will start to decrease. This of course can vary from animal to animal.

This is why when you evaluate a younger animal you look for certain characteristics that would indicate longevity. Good feet and legs, good body capicity to carry a larger udder. And then the udder itself. You look for a udder that is well attached at the fore udder and the escuteon and has strong medial suspensory ligament. This will prevent the udder from sagging as she matures.
