I noticed a lamb with a frothy mouth this afternoon and very slow moving. I googled it and all I could find was frothy bloat. So I mixed up the recipe of 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2 tsp baking soda, and pepto bismol. I stirred it up and gave him some of it in a drencher. There is no change. In fact, he is hovering over the water pail in the barn and doesn't want to move. He actually has no signs of bloat around his abdomen. I checked the left side of his body and there is nothing different. If I stare at him, he seems to almost hiccup or breathe funny every few seconds. He appears to be in pain. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to lose him, he's one of my favorites. We thought maybe he ate too many apples today and is just feeling sick from that. He won't eat the oat straw or any minerals.

My ram was doing the same thing this year. Call to the vet said he had an upset stomach, though she never came to see him. I gave him gatorade, baking soda, and yogurt but no change. Unfortunately a panel off the back of his shelter fell on top of him overnight and he passed away, probably because he couldn't get up and gas in his rumen was trapped.

However I'm not sure totally what this is and you are the second person I've heard with the same symptoms.

However, same thing with the left side--it wasn't large, and it was going in and out really weird.

Yup. Well, he not only survived but is doing fine now. The treatment worked. We were thinking maybe he could have eaten some blue spruce pine needles. I am going to keep this recipe, as I do think it may have saved his life.
