So this year, I've been fortunate enough to be hands on (well... leash on bystander) to the breeding of our does. 2 down, so far, several more to go, and next year we make some decisions on who leaves our herd.

So I thought I'd share and post the pairings as they happen in anticipation of next year. You can make your predictions here if you like of what/how many and, if you like, colouring, as this'll be a crap shoot!

We had purchased, what I consider to be, one of the most gorgeous coloured boers I have ever seen in person. He stayed with us for 3 days, and left this morning, as he was far too wild for our setup and was clearing 4.5 foot fences from a standing position, broke our 1200lb two rope and nearly ripped my shoulder open. We really really wanted to breed our boer doe to him and were worried we wouldn't have the chance now that we needed to sell him -- well, she cycled yesterday and was bred twice and then twice again this morning by him. We are ELATED and look forward to seeing this combo.

Pictures and combos coming soon.

Agnes's kid last year with a spanish buck

This will be her 3rd or fourth freshening. She is a coloured Boer (maybe crossed somewhere along the line). She is CONFIRMED pregnant as she did not cycle.

Here's some more updates.

This will be her second freshening; she FF as a 2 year old this year. Had twins with the same buck but one was stillborn. She is Nubian, Toggenburg and Saanen crossed

This will be Millie's second freshening. First freshened to a single large buckling this year -- wonderful bag. She is half Nubian, half Oberhasli.

This will be Tootsie's second freshening. She first freshened to a large single buckling (below) with a Nubian buck. She is full Oberhasli, but is a DQ for showing because her Chamoisee is broken.

Odin is Polled.

So not photogenic. This will be her second freshening. She FF last year to a single large buckling (Sven's boy, below). Great udder, but not a high producer -- we'll see how she does this year! She is CONFIRMED bred as she did not cycle.

Flora first freshened as a 2 year old to a single doeling but it was stillborn. She is a HEAVY producer with an amazing bag -- I have been trying to dry her up for 3 months and she is STILL producing and I have to milk her half out once a week or she gets tight and hot. I am very much looking forward to seeing this kid! She is Nubian/Toggenburg/Saanen Cross and is Betty's sister.

Lastly!

Gladys is the doe with a limp. She has tested negative for CAE and is suspected to have damage causing pain and swelling from an injury when young. Her walking has improved significantly and we're slowly fixing her feet as they are overgrown and, thusly, the quick is malformed. She was bred and will cycle today if she didn't take. If she didn't take, she will be harvested, as she is 2.5 years old and has been exposed since last year on a continuous basis. She has NEVER freshened (though I'm not entirely convinced as she has milk in her udder and was initially thought pregnant when she arrived). I would love to have her pregnant this year, as she is a gorgeous, gentle and MASSIVE doe. It is hard to show how big she truly is, but she's EASILY 250lbs, and not overweight. She is related to Flora and Betty and is also Nubian/Toggenburg/Saanen cross.
