Also, if you have kids from 2 different freshenings from the same doe when the new kid arrives the one from the earlier freshening will try to, and in my case would successfully nurse from their mom again! I had a wether who was a year and a half old in the same pen with his mother along with her new kid and every time the baby would nurse the older wether would nurse too! That's him (Waldo) and his mother in the picture on my avatar. I kind of likened it to nursing a 20-year-old son! His mother allowed him to nurse whenever the new kid would nurse. He certainly put on weight during that time, but really didn't get too fat. He was one of my best looking goats, but we sold him. He was a real sweetheart.
