We're still looking for a local breeder, but haven't found anything that isn't 4+ hours away. Any suggestions @OneFineAcre? Or anyone else, for that matter.

Where in Texas are you? I've traveled 8 hours for good animals and bartered animals to get a bucklimg transported 12 hoirs

Small world! Sanford is 20 minutes away!

Like OFA said... not unusual to travel for goats, usually though there is someone close to where you are... one of our does we ended up getting from our florist! :D Great well known lines, and we never knew she was right here. She delivered a "Pyrenees Bouquet" and saw our sheep and goats... got to talking and wella.

NC is ridiculously over run with dwarfs (LOL), sadly there are too many of the same lines here and not enough diversity . Hence the shipping, transporting etc.
The dwarf is a great goat you will like them!:)

Thanks, Southern by Choice. :frow That is cool that you are so close to my son! :)

I know all about inbreeding. We got a beautiful Springer Spaniel once, who was too closely bred, and later learned she had "Rage Syndrome", from being inbred. She was very hard to handle. :( Quite a challenge!!!!

I love your story about buying your NDs from your Florist. That is so cool!!! :D

We are in East Texas. Kinda Southeast of Sulphur Springs. I'm traveling almost that far for my Maremma LGD.

I have looked and looked, and it seems no one uses/breeds them in Texas. GPs are the LGD of choice here. I'm sure Pyers have their good points, and each situation is individual, but I have talked to some Pyer owners, who all agree that they pretty much bark all the time, and love to get outside the fence and wander. From everything I have read, Meremmas stay with their livestock and only bark intermittently, to warn off predators.

Anyway, I just spoke with a ND breeder, on the phone, we are going to arrange a time we can visit them (about 2 hours away), and see if they have some girls for us. :celebrate

Thanks Goats&MoreGoats! I'm finding that to be true! Im also blown away by how friendly people are in East Texas! :D =D

LOL- @Baymule is trying to convince me to move to East Texas... and what is even more of a hoot is my son is too!:hu

That is wonderful you have found someone!
Congratulations on your soon to be new LGD!:weee

I have 6 Great Pyrenees and 2 Anatolians. None of them are incessant barkers. I did have to work with my Anatolians though. :rolleyes:None of ours roam, fence climb, wander, or dig...
When they do bark... it is for a reason.
I do wonder if some of these issues are lineage related. Friends of ours in the Mountains have all Anatolians because the pyrs up there are horrible... people buy them $50 and get 3-4 because they know at least 1 might make it as a LGD the others are "disposed" of.
Made me sick and sad.

That is sad about your dog, it also appears to happen with cockers as well....
