So when I went up to feed yesterday evening, my oldest doe was acting very anxious and as if she had lost someone (looking around frantically, bleating). Well, we just put them in the barn and fed, and afterwards she seemed fine, I just thought maybe she was hungry. We went up later and checked and she was laying down and seemed to have been asleep, as usual. This morning wouldn't eat her grain or hay, and when trying to pee it was just a little drop and her back end seems to be swollen and pink, and may have some blood on it. I have never experienced this with a goat and I'm not sure what to do. I have Horse Paste Banamine and I also have some ibuprofen soft gels to try and ease the pain right now, I'm just not sure which would be better to use. Any input is appreciated! She's not pregnant btw.

I don't have any suggestions for you other than call your vet and get your goatie in to be seen. Big hug for your and will keep you and your doe in my thoughts and prayers.

I hope some of the more knowledgeable BYHers have some suggestions for you.

Without any other input except a little swollen 'back there' and her frantic behavior the day before I'm going to make a wild guess that perhaps she was injured. On the way to a goat show many years ago friends of mine had their trailer rear-ended and the goats were tossed around pretty severely. One of the does had swelling in the rear end and she had trouble urinating. When she did pass some it was bloody. They called the fair vet who prescribed an anti-inflammatory and some pain meds and in a couple of days the doe was fine.

However, if your doe cannot pass ANY urine she is in deep trouble and will need to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. A ruptured bladder is a situation that does not end well.

Hope she perks up for you and it turns out to be nothing...
