I have a first freshener grade Lamancha with very small teats and orafices. The main problem is the teats. Until her udder is soft I'm going to need to figure out something. No mastitis or udder congestion now- just a very full udder. Took me 30 minutes to get 4 oz- because I can't grasp them to milk effectively. I've milked small FF Nigerians and it was way easier than this. I can deal with the orafices.

Anyone BTDT? I might take her over to a friends milk machine tomorrow evening and see if milking her out with that once helps- but I need something temporary for me to use for a few weeks until she softens up and/or the teats lengthen a bit.

We are only milking- no baby on her.

I started milking my sheep last year, and one of them had pretty small teats. I only used my thumb and first couple fingers, and I would try and grasp her udder above the teat some, too. I was lucky, she had small teats but decent size orifices.

If you can't milk her with 2-3 fingers, you could try a Maggidans milker. I have used it on a doe with small teats, it works pretty well. It didn't empty the udder completely but I don't use much pressure on the girls' udders, cause I worry about damaging them.

I know others have used the Udderly EZ, but I haven't. I didn't want to spend that much on something I'll probably use once or twice. I hand milk BTW ;)

Thanks. I'll look into it. My husband can also make one with the vacuum pump- so we might do that. I think I just need something to remove enough milk to soften her udder, then I could hand milk he rest. I'm going to try to take her over to a friends milk machine tomorrow night and milk her out. Hoping that will help.

We hand milked three does last year (6 months, 8 months one one still milking 9 months later) all first fresheners a- one Nigee- and are milking two others this year and other than this situation don't feel like I want a machine otherwise. By the time I have 5-6 in milk I might change my mind- especially if I get another one like this!

I cannot offer much advice. I had a small teat doe who had good orifices, and i used my thumb and forefinger to lift and clench and the midle finger to draw down. Is it possible she just has super thick colostrum making her exceptionally hard to milk? Is putting the kid on her an option if all else fails?

I spent the money on an udderly ez goat model and it did NOT work with any of my goats. Ot worked on a friend's sheep, but she ended up breaking the unit. The replacement part was $80, plus shipping, duty and exchange for me, so i am out the 250 i paod for the kit. I was extremely disappointed.

I just ordered a rechargeable milking machine from Dansha farms thru amazon.
My Saanan is a ff and her teats are quite small. So I am hoping this will do the trick.
I read the reviews on the product and people seemed quite happy with it. Soooo we will see.

Update:
Took her to a friends surge milker Tuesday night- so at 4 days fresh. Helped some. There was a little blood so I was really concerned about mastitis, but since it was only at the end I decided it might be just from the higher suction. I was right. We also milked her three times a day almost every day.

By 12 days in she was fine to milk. Not great, but doable. We had her at a show that weekend and she did milk test, then we milked her 4-5 times with the surge milker again. Now she's heavenly. Still not milking super high volume, but ~5-6 cups a day and increasing. In 5 minutes. She has nice thick teets now that are long enough to milk without covering my arm in milk.

So, patience has paid off.

I noted a bit of blood too.
The kids are helping to stretch out my girls teats.
We are not great with the milker but we are going to keep at it.
My girl is a Saanan. With kids on her 24/7 I am getting a quart or so am and pm.
I have mastered the thumb and index milking technique. LOL
