4 foot fence?

I want to get some goats, little ones because I dont want to risk injury to my mom who is up in age. So Nigerians is what I was shooting for, heard they had great tasting milk. Isn't a 4ft high fence high enough?

Yes. Same yourself from wasting time energy amd money though and get either 2x4 no climb horse fence or the 4x4 goat fence.
No welded wire. The 2x4 no climb woven is pricey but a much better fence. The 4x4 and new little kids (goat babies) can still get through.
Also if they have horns they can and will get stuck in 4x4.

I would say ...mostly high enough... my herd (mostly Nigerian, some Boer and a couple Nubians) is generally happy behind 4 foot cattle panels. Smaller Nigerians can easily fit through the standard 4x6 panel bars. Goats will step on fences too so tight stretching is necessary if you are doing the rolled type fencing.

I had one Nigerian buck that learned he could clear the 4 foot cattle panel and when he did it, the younger buck copied him....

Also the breeder I got a couple goats from, had a little doe that would prance along the top of her 4 foot fence.

It might depend on how happy they are behind the fence and what motivation they have for getting out. I don't usually have escapees from goats jumping fences (just one of my Nigerian bucks rubbing his scurs on the latch of the gate to try and open it so he can go visit the ladies through the next fence ). They definitely prefer to stay with their goat families which is usually behind the fence.

My goats do love to try out for santas sleigh team.... here is a pic of StinkerBelle (nigerian) on top of the goat house. I think the peak is at 6 1/2 feet or so, the short side is about 3 feet or so and pretty steep, but they hop up like it is nothing. The top just has a 4 inch strip to dance on, but dance on it they will!

We have a four foot fence for our Nubians, and it works well. We have goat/sheep fencing, and we lined the fence from the ground to three feet up with chicken wire just because our goats are escape artists! lol Just make sure there are no tall areas they can climb on near the fence, or they WILL climb on in and clear the fence!
