Herd Master
This is one of my favorite events every year. 4H has a fitting and showing clinic, and my club the NC Dairy Goat Breeders Association puts on the dairy goat portion.
This was one of the largest ones ever, there were about 20 kids in attendance.
We brought along 4 goats for the kids to work with. Unfortunately, most of my best handling goats are heavily bred, but these did OK for the kids
Dr. Cole Younger with help from his son Casey did a great job.
Rachel is on the left in this first picture and her 3 friends (and our goats)to her immediate right. The goats from left to right are Minnie, Opal, Shea and Rosemary
Cole has seemed to make it his mission to make my daughter Rachel better.
And a lot of times if you are doing showmanship, they will get the kids to switch goats and you show someone else.
Cole told us we needed to get Rachel a bigger goat.
She has a tendency to want to put the hand that she isn't holding the goat with on her hip which makes her look like she isn't very interested in what she is doing. So, we tell her to put it behind her back.
