I'm posting over here on the goat section because I think it may get more attention than the sheep section.

Anyways... how do you go about selling breeding stock (specifically young females)? Aside from advertising, when the buyer comes to look at the animal, what do you do? What do you go over? What do you give the buyer (paperwork, feed, etc)? I've bought rams, but this year I will probably be selling some ewe lambs (so far, I have six lambs and ALL are ewes! Still have three left to lamb) as well as a mature ewe.

Copies of sales policies, contracts, care sheets, etc would be a wonderful help and an excellent starting point.

When marketing unborn animals, I don't really do reservations or take holding payments. It is a pain in the butt and really not necessary.

Instead, I have a waitlist of anyone who have expressed interest. When kids are born, I go down the line and give each a day to decide before moving on to the next person in line.

For other kids, I post them for sale on my Facebook page, on specific Facebook groups meant for goats and farm sales, and then on Hoobly.com/Craigslist. Anymore, they are sold pretty fast through Facebook though.

Anyone who buys signs two copies of a contract---one for me and one for them to keep. I also give them, regardless of experience, a basic care sheet (I will send you a copy later). The care sheet gives some simple advice along with the firm statement that they need to find a vet to care for the animal. On my sales contract, they acknowledge they were given this care sheet.

If they come to my barn to look, I bring the animals out to them and don't really want them in my barn with all of my animals, especially since diseases and illness ride in on shoes and boots from other farms.

I put the animals on leads and let them check them out all over, walk them, and give them a chance to talk amongst themselves. If they decide to buy, money gets counted out in front of me--do not take cash in an envelope or assume it is right--then they sign contracts. I clip together registry paperwork along with their signed contract and send them on their way.

I don't think you can upload word files. See if you can copy/paste it into notepad or save it as a PDF. You should be able to upload those.

Thank you for your help and input!
