I need help with my egg that I am trying to hatch. I candled it today (I can post pictures later) And there was a ring around the embryo. This is day 6 of incubation. It's not a blood ring, and I looked up pictures of a bacterial ring, and none of those matched it. I know the duck isn't dead because it's moving . . . but I just don't know what it is. I'ts a perfect ring, and the embryo is on one side of it. You can't really see the embryo, just the movements. I know this is not a poultry website, I just wondered if anyone had any idea what this could be?????? I'm really worried that it could kill the duck. I have looked at dozens of pictures of eggs, and none of them compare to this one. :( Help!

You will be very happy to know this is all natural :weee

The embryo is located in the center of the yolk where all the nutrients is. The veins from the embryo branch off and the ring you see is like a ring of blood surrounding the yolk (not a bloodring dont worry ) A picture would be helpful but from what you described it sounds like something I always look for in eggs :D

One of our chicken hens recently went broody. We may have little peeps running around at the same time :p

Thank goodness! just to make it clear, the ring is not around the yolk . . . it's in the middle of the yolk . . . is that what you thought? Thanks for your help! Now I hope my little ducky will hatch! Yes, we may!! I'll keep you updated on my duck! Three weeks till the hatch date seems way to long. :barnie

I know it seems long! Try to distract yourself. About the ring it sound like just some normal veining but I really need a picture to determine it. Every egg is different so I think yours is fine...

About waiting long Ive been waiting for five months for my ewe mammy's pregnancy. Talk about waiting xD. She may be due next week. Hoping your egg fairs well :D

Congrats about your ewe! That's so exiting! I'm especially worried about this egg because I have been trying to incubate eggs ever since January, and this is the first one out of about six or seven that has finally started growing! I hope they go well too! I will try to get pics on here . . . I just have to find out how to get them on to the computer from my camera . . .

Thanks you she is the one on the left in my profile pic. Her daughter from her first lambing is the one on the right. Oh I know the struggle of incubating! I have only hatched one chick (in my incubator) and he died at about three months of age. Our broodies are far more relieable. One of our youngins from a summer hatch of two is broody right now and she is quite defensive :3

Cute! I've hatched chickens and guinea fowl. The guineas died at about three weeks of age, because we put them out in our barn under a heat lamp and it just got too cold one night and all seven that were in there died. :( But, other than that, I have had good luck! I have chickens and ducks and none of them have gone broody (Well, I don't have a rooster, so the chickens won't hatch eggs, but I do have a drake and five hens, so I'm hoping that I'll get some little duckies from them if I can't hatch them myself!)

I couldn't get a real picture of the egg onto my computer, but I found a picture of a different egg I candled from a while back, and I drew on it what it looked like lol! Here . . .

Sorry, it's a little bigger than I expected it to be. :) That's how it looks (Except I didn't do a good job on the veins LOL!!!)
