The kids (pygmy) arrived on Friday night. 2 girls and 1 boy. All head first! Of course it couldn't be that easy for this first timer, there were no legs! The first was the white girl. It was pretty easy to get her leg. Next came the all black male. He was the largest and was just sitting there with his head out. I was finally able to get my hand in far enough to get to get the arm and out he came. Every one assumed it was just two but I stayed there with her. She needed to expel the placenta but looked like she was in labor. I was watching all this weird stuff come out (which was a placenta) and right behind it tumbled out the little black and white girl. Her placenta followed. Vet came out Sat morn and gave her a shot of penicillin and then told me I could give her SMZ tabs crushed twice a day and that has worked well. I mix it with warm oatmeal grain and molasses.
Vet didn't want to deworm right away because she had been through a lot. I bought Ivomec and see most people give orally. But on one site I read you should inject because it lasts longer and if there is a large population of worms it will cause the stomach to bleed out. I would rather give orally...what do you guys think about it?
Also is it okay to sprinkle 7 dust in bedding? I see the babies scratch their heads sometimes but don't see anything. They seem frisky and healthy. thanks!

Congrats! Personally, I don't deworm until I test goats since it has ruined some good meds for everyone. After my does kid, I take a sample in for testing and sometimes, they need it but most of the time, I haven't had a reason at all to medicate them. Kidding can influence parasite development, but it doesn't always. Wait a week and see if the vet will do an egg count for you to see if she has had a bloom.

My kids scratch their heads too. Maybe it is the horn buds coming through that itches. The dust won't hurt anything though so long as they don't breathe a bunch of it.

How fun that you got a bonus kid!

Thanks everyone! About worming, I asked my vet about having her stool checked and he is pretty old school and said just to deworm and not spend money on the tests. So, that's why I had decided to go ahead and do it. I thought since she just had the babies and her coat is a little dry better safe than sorry.
Other than that I am just loving these little guys, it has been soooooo much fun!
