New type hive invention--scam, joke video or the real deal?

As the video says, they are wanting to get funded by a "fund me" crowd funding type thing via the internet.
I can't make up my mind if this video is serious, a joke or what.
If real, there is evidently a LOT that isn't explained in the video.
Thoughts?

They will be on Kickstarter in a few days so it shouldn't be too long before we know. That would be amazing for the hobbiest. Doesn't take care of the mite issue so you still have to "bug" the bees to take care of them.

I'd like to see how this works with the cappings. Otherwise, I'd think the honey would ferment with too high moisture content.

The frames are preformed cells that open at the base to let the capped honey out - the bees just fill them and cap as normal, then once you drain them, the bees discover there's no honey behind the cappings, open them up and fill again.

I think more info is forthcoming this week...

If I understand what you're saying/implying, I believe you're right... Without the window in the hive to visually check and see that the honey cells have been capped (& are done/the right moisture) there is a potential to drain honey from un-capped cells where the moisture would be too high, thus causing poss ferment issues.

That was another shadow I had nagging me about these... They say you can drain the honey without disturbing the hive/bees, but unless you're able to see that the honey cells are capped, I mean, you'd still need to open the hive to look at the frames... Just my thoughts...

ETA One thing I can say, whether this works out for these guys or not, the popularity will hopefully cause more people to look into keeping bees.
I never seriously considered beekeeping until the last couple of days, and this advertising has prompted me to find out what works and what doesn't and what the experts truly recommend.
Now I'm actually quite interested in how real hives work and how I can keep them when I start my property.

Good point, it will encourage others to look into/start beekeeping.

Had some folks talking about this at our last bee club meeting. I guess while the inventors were looking for something like $70K in financial support, Since they went public looking for support, they have already garnered more like $10 million in support and purchase orders! Don't know all the details and have better things to spend my time researching, but whether this works or not, I would say the "sale" aspect has been a wild success!
