I disbudded on my own this eve. for the first time.
I did three goats.
Husband helped but was a bit horrified at the procedure.
The dog up and disappeared.
Now keeps looking at me like I am a monster.
I think I got it right. copper rings and all.
One doe knocked her little nubs off almost immediately.
I have two more goats to go.
Not crazy about this but def. not into goat horns either.

First few times it is awful. Still not fun but it is easier now and we are much better at it.

Still hate doing it, but not quite the pure sense of dread I used to get.
We've gotten better at it too.

Have to confess - we did one goat kid last year, and DH and I hated it so much we took the rest to the vet. :hide Our vet only charges $5 for disbud and CDT, but I do think disbudding is a good thing for goat owners to know how to do.

If I could get a vet to do it for $5 and the CDT, I would absolutely let them.

Next year I will perfect the art.
