But it is the market. If I have 3 does all giving 2 qts per day all good structure and their kids are all relatively equal... people will pick Blue eyes over brown everytime. I like brown myself but that isn't what most want and the polled gene for some is important if they do not want to do much disbudding.
I personally don't find the polled gene to be much of an advantage.

With there being soooooo many Nigies and a lot of really good ones out there it isn't like there are slim pickins.

Same as color... no maybe not important in one respect but people like what they like and we have had clients that hate a black goat or any black on a goat... some white NO white... last year everyone wanted white... ya never know.

I have so many Chamoisee Lamancha's and Mini's that truth is I want some other colors. I can certainly find great genetics, great milkers that are a different color and that doesn't mean I am not caring about their overall productivity and confirmation.

Variety is fun! :)

Personally
If when I speak to a person the first time and they ask about blue eyes or polled and I gauge that this is their level of interest I don't sell them one of my goats
Kind of like people who get chicks and bunnies at Easter

Would you sell one of your LGD pups to someone because they thought he or she was pretty

Yeah, but some people just want pets.
I know many that have been breeding for years and there are those that would love to have polled genetics. Doesn't make a person uneducated about what they want or are looking for. But we all have ways that we deal with people. I recently talked with a person wanting just that- polled and blue eyed... after talking about the polled genetics they changed their mind and realized it may not be as advantageous as they thought. Referred them out to another breeder.

Why do I feel like we are having
A debate about something but I'm not
Sure what it is?

Generally I talk with them and don't dismiss them. I explain the attributes and work aspect. But if I have 3 dogs that would fit a particular situation then I do give a choice to the client and they pick which one strikes their fancy.

There are those that simply do not want a long coated LGD they don't want to groom it. Doesn't make them shallow because they are picking by coat type.

Lol ... nah just both of us showing different perspectives. :)
I don't understand your perspective on this
Someone with a few Nigerians is likely to buy this animal because he is pretty
They are not going to care and sell CL positive animals on Craigs List
These people sold their herd off earlier with no mention of CL
I know who these people are
There is nothing particularly redeeming in this animals DNA that needs to be preserved
No reason why he shouldn't be put down instead of selling on Craigs list for $100
