I have been trying to find a place in my house to cure my soap. I am concerned it may absorb some smells in the house. I have not made soap in the large quantities I am making it now and was always able to cure it in a small, out of the way closet with a fan on it. That is not an option right now.

I am concerned the soap may absorb smells like cat (boxes), cooking, mud, manure and all of the wonderful things my house smells like. o_O I love the farm but it doesn't leave me much time for cleaning.

Any idea? Do I need to worry?

You don't know how glad I am to see that somebody else has this issue! At my place critters and their care are a priority over sweeping and dusting!

Wish I had an answer for you about the soap, but I don't know nuthin' 'bout soaping! :hu

Our place is always a wreck unless we pay someone to clean it.

I don't know if the soap will absorb odors or not but it will attract dust, lint, and hair. You really need to find a room that isn't used much and let it cure there. I mounted some wire shelves behind a door in my office and got some bamboo placemats, cut them for the shelves, and that is where the soap goes to dry. My biggest problem is cat and dog hair sticking to the soap. Maybe you could get a big rubber maid tub and cut some air holes in it, cover them with screen, and dry the soap in that.

A neat way to store soap long term if you are making various fragrances is to buy plastic boxes, like shoe boxes, and put a cotton ball soaked in the fragrance of the soap in the container with the soap. I use those little plastic cups like you get salad dressing in or pills when you are in the hospital and stick the cotton ball in those. If your soap is wrapped in paper don't let the cotton ball touch the paper or it will make and oily stain, that is why I use the little cups. I always store my soap in individual containers by fragrance as some don't play well together. So yes...I guess soap does absorb odors, but I don't know about in a house, unless maybe it is fish or onions.
