At the moment, raising meat mutts. Californian and New Zealand Reds, but breeding them together. I sell them as meat rabbits to people and they can do whatever they want with the rabbit once it leaves. I still have yet to dispatch a rabbit. I'm hoping to soon get into pedigreed rabbits if I can find a transporter :D

Welcome from California. We have raised chickens and rabbits since 1988 and larger livestock since 1988. I just discovered this site a month ago. So much information and most important - so many nice people.
My husband started with NZW rabbits and later we got into Cals. Our kids also raised and showed smaller breeds. Our family loves eating rabbit which is why we got them to start with.

Butchering is hard. On the days we butcher rabbits, we only eat mac and cheese. Its a personal thing. I don't know what your regulations are but here in California we can't sell meat without an approved facility. The only way to sell butcher rabbits is to sell live. That makes it easier if you sell to the broker. Here's a secret, the more you rely on the meat to feed your family, the easier it is to butcher. That being said, butchering is never easy. In fact, our local butcher who does our sheep told us that he had to buy a calf from a customer because after it licked his face he couldn't slaughter it! LOL After 35 years it is still unpleasant. No one likes it, it is just necessary.

Nice! :) I have mixed breeds right now too... haven't yet eaten any, but would like to sometime in the near future! :) Although as Ridgetop said, it must be hard to slaughter them! :(
