Anyone know anything about Beveren's that is a little different than other breed? There is a chance I may be getting into them as a joint deal with a friend. someone has asked us to take them on and with finally having my French Lops where I want them, actually breeding, I feel like I would be ready to take on another breed at a MUCH smaller scale.

Anyone have personal experience with the breed? Anything special to know about them? I did a quick google search and the general description sounds like a good fit but General is a lot different than actually having them.

Thank you in advance y'all!

Ohhhh! good Idea! I forgot about that! These two have kind of a long story... My local club's President and his wife knew the original breeder well. They were good friends. The lady developed cancer and sold out of her herd of VERY top of the line Beveren Rabbits (BEW's). A 4-h family got a pair that were proven and have not had any luck getting babies from them so they want to give them up. The lady I know personally who was close with the original breeder is sick about it because this particular pair was special to the gal. Now that the gal has passed away from her cancer she hopes to find them a good home that would be able to love and care for them as they need as well as be able to handle their breeding, or lack there of. Since I have struggled with my french so badly she feels confident I could turn this pair around :gig I am soooo glad someone has confidence in me!

That's to bad about the original breeder. I had originally thought about getting this breed when we were 1st looking to add rabbits but not all agreed so we ended up with the Californian.

The rabbit SOP has 2 pages of information on them.

Good Luck if you decide to take them on! :fl

I assume by "original breeder," you mean the first person in your area that had Beverens? I understand they were first imported into this country nearly a century ago; I can't imagine that those folks are still around, lol.

I don't have any personal experience with Beverens; I'm not sure I've ever even seen any (they are a rare breed, after all). I know their "mandolin" body type sets them apart from most similar-sized breeds, which are mostly commercial in type. I'm afraid the only thing I've ever heard about Beverens came from someone who had a few a long time ago, and he described then as "mean." I have to believe that that was just the rabbits he had; that kind of temperament gets a rabbit kicked off the show table these days.:hu
