We just got a couple of bucklings, an alpine cross and a Nubian cross. We've had them just over a week. When we feed them their hay, they dive right in and eat and eat and eat and eat. We've gotten kids before, but I don't remember ANY of them eating this much, or being so focused on their hay. I can even pet the flighty one. I'm concerned they might have worms, but they're only 2 and 3 1/2 months old so I don't know if I can worm them. Is it normal for bucklings to be gorging on their hay? They eat up to 2 books of a small square bale a day, whereas our does eat a little less than that with the four of them. I'm concerned. Please help.

Now is the perfect time to run a fecal to your vet.
Transport and stress of a new home can and often does create a "bloom". So if their are internal parasites the numbers will go up quickly. Cocci are not worms but greatly affects kids and is usually the greatest concern at this age. Having a fecal done will tell you if you need to treat for parasites or Cocci. Different products are used to treat cocci than are used for worms.

It is not wise to deworm without knowing if you really need to. This is what starts building resistance to dewormers. Identifying type of worm so that the correct dewormer can be used is best.

The kids may or may not have any issues but might really like your hay! :) As long as they are not looking bloaty than they should be ok. Most kids have access to hay 24/7. Bucklings will eat more as they get big quick. They will grow to a 200lb buck.
A Flake of hay will vary from bale to bale. How many pounds do you think the two are eating?

Are they acting normal otherwise? Nice "berries"?
Do they have pasture?
