my sheep sliced her mouth open with a bungy cord two days there is a two inch laceration above her lip. She is still able to eat and drink, but you can tell she is in pain, we don't have a livestock vet anywhere close and have no way to take her anywhere. Does anybody have any suggestions on what I can do for her to make her comfortable and keep it from getting infected?

Greetings @Chantel and :welcome Sorry about your wounded sheep :(

Is the slice all the way through the lip? As in her lip is now a loose flap? Or is it "just" a deep laceration? You might get better recommendations if you could post a few pictures so folks can see what you're dealing with. As long as she's able to eat and drink, you've got 1/2 the battle won. Good luck!

The problem it that you need to get banamine from a vet. No vet, no banamine.

I agree, pics would be best but I don't think I will be much help on this one. :(

Do you know any experienced breeders that could come by and look at the ewe?

@SheepGirl @purplequeenvt @BrownSheep Any ideas?

@Chantel, can you post some clear pictures of the injury? That would help people make better recommendations for her treatment.

Without pictures, my advice for treating would be to flush the wound at least twice a day, keep fly spray on her to prevent fly strike (believe me, you do NOT want to deal with that too), and load her up with antibiotics.

OK, you may not like what I have to say, but I would recommend that you get her to a vet soonest. The vet can knock her out and clean that area thoroughly, disinfect it, and stitch it. That is not going to heal well on it's own due to location, constant movement of the affected area, and the high potential for infection from her mouth.

Looks to me like it'll take like 5-8 external stitches and possibly more internal ones (inside the lip) to close that up and keep it closed enough to heal while still leaving her able to eat/drink.

Wish you the best! Keep us updated on her status please!
