So I bought a tattoo kit from jeffers, and thought that my velveteen lops would be easier to tattoo than my dutch (had them as a teen), but nope cannot read any tattoos... what tips can anyone give me? I ended up covering their heads with a old sock with a hole I pulled their ear thru. I CAN get dh to help next time... I recall using vasoline over the ink. Really want some good tattoos so it's done 1x and over with!

Wipe the ear to clean it. Then tattoo. I then use an old tooth brush dipped in the black ink. Then I wipe the ear clean with a dry paper towel. If I want to read it right away, I use hand sanitizer gel to clean off the extra ink. Then if the tattoo looks good, Coat with vasoline or triple antibiotic cream. I think the trick is don't be afraid to squeeze the tattoo pliers. It's ok if you go through the ear. And rub the ink in well. Good luck.
