Hi all
Just when I think the stress of new kids is over for the year...
Our 6 week old Nigerian Dwarf doeling seems to be very uncomfortable. When I came home from work I noticed a drop of bloody urine. She was squatting a lot like she has a UTI. But she also seems somewhat bloated and painful. She has passed some stool that seems normal, but she's still acting very uncomfortable. At the moment she's lying down but looks miserable. I lost one kid this year and I feared that I didn't start him on antibiotics as soon as I should have. I'm afraid to do something wrong with this one now. I gave her a bit of mineral oil (about 10cc) just in case, figured it wouldn't hurt. Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

I haven't yet but I will. I'm running to tractor supply to see what kind of bloat meds they have. Belly ache is my best guess. She seems like she's too painful for it to be a uti. I'll temp her when I get home. Thanks.

Temp is normal. They didn't have anything at tractor supply but I'm not really sure she's all that bloated. She seems about the same, mostly just wants to sleep. She's asleep in my lap now. Maybe it is a uti and she's just very painful? I'll start her on antibiotics in the morning, unless anyone thinks I need to go get some from my work tonight. Not sure what else to do.

Well, things aren't looking good. I started her on penicillin, and she seems to be going downhill quickly. I don't get it. She was totally healthy this morning. Now she's extremely weak, hardly wants to stand at all. She's knuckling on one hind leg. And she just randomly screams sometimes. I force fed some milk and an electrolyte solution. I don't know what else to do. It seems like I'm losing her.

She died about 1 am. I'm devastated especially because we lost her litter mate suddenly a couple of weeks ago. I feel like a total failure, but can't figure out what we did wrong. I'm sending this one into uc Davis for a necropsy. I have no idea what could've happened. There was nothing for her to get into. She didn't have any diarrhea. The only symptoms were blood in her urine, squatting often, and then increasingly painful and lethargic. I left for work at 7:30 am and she seemed fine then. I got home at 4:30 and she was a little uncomfortable and didn't want to run around much but didn't seem that bad. She went downhill so quickly I have no idea what I could've done. I'm going to collect some drugs and emergency meds but I have no idea if any of it would've helped. Hopefully Davis will have some answers for us.
