Herd Master
Okay so I'm going to create a thread to follow my goats, and occasionally other critters. I'm on other forums for other animals... But, hey! You can never share too many pictures!
Here on our micro ranch we raise pigs, goats, horses (pets, 3), 13 breeds of chickens, quail (coturnix, bobwhites, gambells), guineas of all colors, turkeys, barn cats (4 girls), dogs, and the occasional foster dog or two. I'm sure I'm missing something here but we have so much it's hard to list everything! Oh! And Jerseys. We have Jersey cows for raising calves on.
Eventually I would love to have sheep and rabbits again. Eventually.
In spring of last year my husband and I found our dream starter home. It was in total shambles. Broken beams, leaking roof, no insulation, broken out windows, and so much more. The property was in desperate need of a chainsaw and tractor. There was no fencing and yeah, you guessed it, trash everywhere.
So we said let's do this. We dove in head first. Months of struggles, fires, hauled loads of junk, and housework. The property is hardly recognizable now. Neighbors have complimented us on progress but we're so far from done it's unreal. Moving the animals up here took almost a year. One by one we sold down on our flocked animals, we can rebuild those. Horses took a month. Dogs and cats came immediately. All other animals have finally been moved in!!! We've got two almost three acres cleared ready to burn. Currently, there's a burn ban. Can't light anything without lighting the country up. I'd rather wait.
So here we are! I don't have pictures of the property to post but I have terrible quality pictures of the goats. Yes, the bucks are in with the does right now. They've been there two days and prayers no accidental breedings have happened. A tree fell on their pen that's FULL of wasps. Can't get close enough to spray them l. We're going to wait on the cold. The boys are moving into a temporary pen tonight to keep them away from the does.
Pictures will be in the next post. My phone is having issues.
