Driving into the bigger town one day, i noticed in a field with the flock of sheep i have seen many a times, carrots.. like a truck load dumped on the ground... I'd say there are likely at least 20-25 sheep in this field if not more.. hey, driving by can only eyeball lol

Trying to sort opinions on carrots for sheep overall.. getting mixed(gee, how surprising) I can easily access "horse carrots" around here.. so i mean i could add to my flocks diet to some extent, but the question is can you, should you? some argue they need to be chopped down like sticks to avoid choke.. some say only as a treat and so forth...

Currently, the flock gets a compete sheep ration w/a bit of whole corn twice daily and free choice hay to the ears... taking a break from breeding this fall too so no one is expecting... and most of the ewes with the exception of my last one has weaned the lambs from this years season.

I'd say...yes....give them some carrots if you like as a supplement to their diet.

Sheep LOVE sweet things and over here (Wales) we can buy sugar beets for winter feeding of livestock. I throw them in whole for the main bunch and chop them up a bit for the old girls who haven't a lot by way of teeth.

Nutritionally roots have sugar and certain vitamins (carotene etc) and minerals, but quite a lot of water. Other foods need to be added to roots e.g fodder/hay, grain etc for winter feeding.

Do sheep like carrots ? Most do, and that includes the carrot tops.

A few years back I must not have secured the gate to my vegetable patch well and the sheep got in there. They ate carrots, parsnips, beans and peas (plants and all), strawberry plants..oh and this is what they thought of pumpkins.
