I'm currently feeding a 17 percent grower to my feeder pigs, is it necessary to switch at some point to a finisher?

What is the difference in the 2 feeds, is the finished a lower protein, higher energy feed that will produce more fat?

What is the recommended size to switch over?

I'm not sure if my feed guy makes a finisher and I'd rather stay away from commercial feeds due to expense, I'm going to the mill in the morning I'll see what he has.

No it is not necessary to switch there are pro's and con's but over all the changes are unnoticeable it is really only worth switching for huge factory farms. You have it right on energy and protein. Switch over at around 150 pounds, if you choose to do so.

I think if anything I'll probably stick with the grower maybe start throwing more cracked corn at some point
