I have a three month old buckling with chronic diarrhea.
His poop is normal colored.
He is growing but not particularly fattening up.
He has a suspicious pot belly.
He has normal poo in between bouts of diarrhea.
It seems to bloom after the rain and at night specifically.

I can't seem to get behind his diarrhea.
I have tried:
treating for coccidia, for 7 days several times
Treating for e-coli, salmonella, etc. for up to 14 days
Probiotics over and over again.

I am ready to wean him because he is bottle fed. He has been wormed and vaccinated.

Any ideas.

Have you had a fecal run? That should tell you exactly what you're dealing with and you can treat appropriately. No sense in throwing one thing after another at him if it's not directed at his specific problem. Good luck! :)

Did you try scour halt for the eColi? They other thing that comes to mind is Giardia. Your vet may not test for it and it may be $$$ but the treatment is Fenbendazol (Safe Guard) for 5 days. I can't remember the dosage...I'm old and I count on @Southern by choice to remember for me. ;) But I know that the dosage is higher than what the bottle says.

I agree with the culture, no idea why it would be weather related, that is a strange one. Perhaps the wormer you are using is just not working any longer.

Agree with the others. You may need to take the kid to the vet and have them collect a sample internally.

Is he on free choice grain? What type of milk/formula do you have him on. Are you doing free choice milk? If it seems to be happening during raining/nasty weather that is keeping him confined it could be something as simple as eating too much grain or milk out of boredom. I have some kids that will eat out of boredom and that can cause them to get the runs :sick

The pot belly would make think parasites, though.

Or the potbelly can be a well developed rumen. It is scary how pot belly looking my kids can get after a full course meal of alfalfa

Have taken him to the vet twice. They did fecals both times and both times no coccidia or worms present. They treated him with antibiotics and vitamin B. He cleared up for about a week. I've noticed that when I give him a vitamin B shot he clears up as well for a while. I'm starting to think he has a deficiency of some sort. He gets no grain. I'm thinking he needs to just be culled.
