New milk goat - help! Lol

I had to go and google soap with antibiotic laced milk and found nothing but a debate...go figure. When I get the dairy started I have to test for Penicillin...now I am going to have to see if I can test my soap for Pen as well. I seldom use Pen in my goats but I wonder if I could add a drop of Pen to the soap, make it, and test it? Hmmm

Some say that the lye and heat will kill it, some say it may not, no one seems to know for sure. I would be of the mindset to use it since it is doubtful she was on any drugs in the first place. JMO

Personally I could care less about penicillin... its e-coli and that sort of thing that scares me. I guess if someone was allergic to penn then that could be a problem.

Also- the feed looks good! :thumbsup

At least the e-coli won't make it through lye and 200+ degrees, I never pasteurize my milk for soap. I let the soap making process do that for me.

Guess I better plan on making soap soon, lol. This will be my first time soaping with milk though. :weee

Well, she's our only goat at the moment. But, our pigs are in a pen within that fenced area and she has figured that out and will look over at them occasionally, lol. The pigs get happy when she does, lol.

We did work on her hooves. That one hoof I got a pic of was probably the best looking one. One was so uneven it was ridiculous. Hubby got it smoothed out and did his best on the others. I will say, I'll be SO glad when we get our stand built, it'll make trimming so much easier. She's heavy! And strong! Lol

You will want to add another goat after quarantine and testing. Goats are herd animals and need other goats.

Good you are keeping goat and pigs separate. They are not species that should be on the same land together. Far too many disease issues.

Make sure you read about soaping with milk, (if you haven't already); there are a few little tricks you need to follow as the milk will get very very hot and can curdle.

If she's not pregnant we will probably get another goat. This is the first time we've ever had just one goat. Our kids have been keeping her company in the meantime, lol.
