I wasn't sure where to post this but I was wondering if anyone makes their own udder balm? Our new milk goat is really dry and I can't go buy any. I've seen a few blogs with recipes but thought I would double check here. :D =D

I have coconut oil and evoo and essential oils but I've never used essential oils on animals and haven't researched it to see if they're safe for this purpose. Also have fresh beeswax.

Thanks in advance!

I have used a homemade balm once when I was treating mastitis and looking for something for congestion. The balm was one I made for arthritis so it was spicy. I don't see any reason you couldn't make one, you wouldn't even need the essential oils unless you wanted one for a particular reason, like peppermint for congestion.

I would just look for a recipe for a solid lotion bar and then add more olive oil or less beeswax so it isn't as hard. I bet there are recipes out there if you google them. I have been thinking about making some to sell since I already do soap, lotion, dog shampoo, lip balm, and solid lotion bars so the udder balm seemed like a natural progression.

I've never made balm, but used to make my own black powder lube for shooting. The ingredients were 50/50 olive oil and beeswax. Just melt beeswax and mix in oil to combine. It did make my hands soft when I used it, so imagine it would work. Nothing in that to cause harm. A balm may need slightly more oil percentage. It should work.

Great!

I make lip balms so I figured it wouldn't be too much different, just need a different container, lol.

We did discover an area yesterday that seemed "congested", I think I may add a tad of peppermint.

Good deal, thanks y'all!
