So you're saying using the pea sheller is definitely an outside sport? :gig It is a good size, not too big like the ones you see at farmers markets. The view that Teresa had while shelling peas is gorgeous.

We did a small test run in the living room and it didn't take long to see we had to move it outside. :)

We get where we sort of take those views for granted until the end of the day and we are out seeing how many deer are in the fields. Hopefully those critters will get more scarce once we put some LGDs in the fields soon.

Ok, I have another question. You picked 5 bushels of peas, how long are the rows and how many rows did you pick? Sounds like you have quite the pea patch. And about those deer.....you could shoot one (in season of course) and put it in the freezer. Deer steak, dipped in buttermilk, dredged through seasoned flour and dropped in a skillet of hot oil.... :drool:drool:drool:drool:drool some mashed taters and gravy....:drool:drool:drool:drool

There is 5 rows each about 100 feet long. They were planted as beds with basically 3 rows per bed if that makes sense.

Our deer are over populated and they will be thinned out this next season now that we are here. We have seen as many as 12 at a time. You can take over 30 legally but they tend to disappear when the season starts. :)

Yes that makes sense, I tend to plant in double or triple rows too. You can legally take 30 deer?? :ep@Latestarter might become you new best friend! You might want to buy a meat grinder if you don't already have one. That is, if you process your own. If you make your own sausage, buy a whole brisket and grind it with the deer meat. It has fat on it and keeps the deer sausage from being too dry.

You should consider setting up a ground blind right now so the deer become accustomed to it, then plan on bow season. No noise, the shot might startle them but it shouldn't scare them too bad if you just sit and wait it out after the shot... Man... I sure do love venison...

You are welcome to come take all that you want. We like to eat venison but after they killed half the fruit trees I put in I would just as soon they go away and stay gone. :)

We do have a meat grinder and make sausage and ground meats. Venison we do process but until we get our own sheep we will still be buying them from the processor. He gets a mature wether for $150 flat rate and charges $110 for processing so it's hard to beat. We have bought a lamb and a wether in the last year or so and and the meat is awesome.

Best way to store garlic is in a canning jar. Chop it up or grind it up, put it in olive oil and vacuum seal it with a lid sealer from an older vacuum sealer. It lasts for about 5 years that way. You can also freeze it in vacuum sealed bags or plastic containers without the olive oil, but the olive oil is so nice because it gets all garlicky tasting. You can also add other herbs.
