I haven't been around here long enough to know if this has been mentioned in the past. I apologize if this is repetitive but I discovered something that might be useful to somebody else.

My winter auto snow brush broke at the end of the articulating handle as they are so prone to do. I couldn't see just tossing it away since the brush part was pristine. With a little innovative reconstruction and addition of a piece of PVC pipe, I made an expandable handle tool that works just dandy for cleaning the sloped metal manure collection trays under my cages. I also found that it is great for brushing hair accumulations and gunk off the wire cages. It catches hair like a magnet. When the brush gets clogged with hair, a few swipes up and down the trunk of a nearby cherry tree cleans it off lickety-split. I've been using it for about five months now and it shows absolutely zero wear. I can't imagine anything made specifically for this application working any better.

Any time you can repurpose something it is worth a mention.

The original snow brush broke at its connection with the handle. I heated and shaped the end of a piece of CPVC pipe and bolted that to the brush and attached the other end to the original handle. This gives me the addional length needed to reach the back of the manure collection tray that extends under two cages. The original telescoping handle latch broke so it doesn't lock, but it still telescopes enough to give me the needed length and still slides back into the original handle to accommodate use in tight spaces. The brush is used mostly to pull hair/hay/manure from the back of the tray, so the broken latch doesn't come into play. Sliding the original handle extension into the handle shortens the overall length enough to use the tool as a push-and-pull brush for cleaning hair from cages. Yes, it's crude, but works beautifully.
