We ended up with 3 healthy babies. By the time we got that big one or she was too tired and weak to push out the rest. So we sent her to slaughter and sold the babies to someone willing to bottle feed. We both work full time so there's no way we could bottle feed. It's so discouraging. Hopefully out other gilt does better next week.

So sorry that the first experience was so bad.....sounds like that one I had only I lost the sow thinking that she was only gonna have the 6 and it was 6 on one side. Sadly, it is the way it goes...hope the meat will be decent as the stress levels will elevate the adrenaline....ought to make decent sausage and bacons to cure.

Thanks guys. She had two left inside her, barely alive, too weak to survive. I just hate how long she had suffer. I know you're not supposed to get sad over farm animals, but it just really sucks.

It's okay to be sad, nothing wrong with that in my book :hugs

So sorry it worked out this way for you. No you are supposed to get sad about farm animals. If you don't get a little sad then you're doing it wrong.

Let me tell you, I deal in alot large numbers than most on here I realize, yet I cried over the premie calf that survived 2 1/2 weeks that the momma tried to take such good care of and was so surprised and thrilled that she was willing to take another calf that I grafted on her. Not feeling sad would be wrong; you have to accept it and go on but there is nothing wrong with feeling bad about losing an animal that you have invested some of "yourself" in. I understand it as well or better than most.
