We have a horned 6 month old wether that has lost his playmate. Considering purchasing a 9 month old doe without horns. Is this safe. Will the wether hurt her since she has no horns. These are pets!

Greetings @Rcunningham and welcome to BYH! Like many other questions regarding goats... there's rarely a hard and fast "yes" or "no" answer... It almost always "depends"... Anyway, sorry you and your wether lost a friend/playmate. Hope it wasn't something that could also affect your wether. If you have a pic or two that you could share, we're all pretty much pic addicts here. Browse around in the goat section when you've got some time. There's a wealth of info and experience there. Feel free to jump in when you hear the call. Make yourself at home! Glad to have you with us.

It's not a problem unless it is a problem.
Not trying to be funny, but plenty of horned goats live fine with goats without horns.
But, sometimes with an individual animal it can be a problem.
No way to know for sure in advance.

This. We have one horned 4 year old Nigerian doe and 16 polled/disbudded Nigerian and Lamancha goats. She's never been a problem. OTOH, I have a few goats that *would* be a problem if they had horns. Namely, the one in my profile picture.

Would I buy a horned goat? I can't think of a reason I would. But, she was given to us from a lovely disease free home who loved her but couldn't keep her and besides fitting in well, I've gotten really attached to her, so she's here to stay!
