Goat Whisperer

This is a bit delayed, but we did show at the NC State Fair last weekend 
I came home with a cold and have been pretty wiped out, hence the delay.
Figures I came home with a cold but the goats are just fine, I would rather it that way personally!
We took 7 kids, 5 Dwarfs & 2 Lamanchas. We were going to take another lamancha but she came up with a limp so we scratched her. We didn't bring any milkers as they were going on 10 months into lactation and being dried off. We took 1 Int. kid, 4 Sr. Nigerian kids, and 2 lamancha Sr. kids.
We had an awesome first show! We showed in the the youth show (under 21 years of age) and the open show. The Nigerian classes were huge, both in the open show and youth show.
First up were Southern's Lamanchas! (Although they are really my babies!)
Small class but none the less
Charlotte took 1st
Jane took 2nd

Charlotte took Grand Ch Lamancha kid
Jane took Reserve Lamancha kid

Nigerians were next.
Belle was our only Intermediate kid. We took her just to take her. LOL So were were pretty shocked and very surprised when the judge placed her 3rd!
Part of our shock was when the judged bumped her up we were like OMGoodness- because Belle was so terrible and leaping and just being Belle the brat.
After Intermediate came Sr kids
We had Carolina Girl (super fat red girl) Clover (a little less fat and smaller red girl) Boots (tri) and Foxy (Gold and white)
Another really big class so again we were just blown away when 3 of our goats were in the top 5!
I think all of us were doing this
Clover was 2nd
Carolina girl 3rd
Boots 5th
Boots did a flip and even landed on her side once- she was a little devil. Carolina girl gave a bit of fuss but not too bad. Clover was fine. Foxy was being handled by someone else and in Foxy's mind who are you why are you touching me? The girl did a really good job but Foxy did not cooperate.

I think she would have placed better in the open show had I handled her. She isn't used to men and the person who handled her didn't know how to set a goat up. I'm fine with that though, I knew all this before going into the ring I think the judge liked her, but it is hard when the goat doesn't show herself or isn't set up.
Oh, and this is for Southern- Judge DID NOT say they were fat- He said they had excellent capacity.
We had a long break until the open show
Intermediate Nigie Kids there were I think 20 kids. The judge moved Belle from 6th to 8th. Still, for us that was still really great. She is terrible to show and the fact that all these Nigerians were awesome I am pretty thankful.
Sr Nigi Kids next, same 4 as before but it was an absolutely HUGE class!
I was blown away... Clover was FIRST PLACE! I was so tickled when the judge said "I feel like she was an easy first place for me"
Such a great feeling, I really didn't expect this! Southern was able to record when Clover was placed first, I have listened to it over and over

Southern didn't know what was happening, she'll tell you about it in another post. She wants to post some of the other fair pics. She has been waiting on me
After the ND's, we had to run right over to the other ring to show the lamanchas. It was crazy.
Big class of Sr Lamancha kids.. Competition just crazy. We knew who would place an easy first right away... and they did! LOL
The judge came back to Charlotte 3 or 4 times. I was trying to show her so hard. The judge would come and look at her from the front then walk away then came back. All I knew was to try to do all I could. Then the judge pointed and moved Charlotte to 4th!
Considering the goats there Charlotte's fourth was a huge accomplishment! Jane was 9th but truly the goats were so amazing that her 9th is still really great to us. We were going up against a breeder that placed 1st jr kid at the national show.
