    How to find Cow with Calf

    You can definitely check out craigslist...sometimes you can get a pretty decent deal on there. And also try your closest sale barn. We always give them a call because sometimes they will have what we're looking for consigned. But like glenolam said, be careful buying what goes through a sale...

    What should I do?

    We had her preg checked in Dec and the vet said she was nearly full term. When she still hadn't calves in Feb we took her back and he said the calf was fine. Last week was when she bled.

    What should I do?

    As you all know, I have an 8 year old Scottish Highland cow who was supposedly full term in December and she still hasn't calved. Last Friday, I came home and she was bleeding from her backside (it was all over her tail and the back of her hind legs). We assumed she was just getting ready to...

    Are we getting close?...:UPDATE:

    Nothing yet this morning! She is eating/acting normally. Her vulva is very loose. I will try to get out and get a picture as soon as I can.

    Are we getting close?...:UPDATE:

    amy, it's gotten too dark for me to get a good picture. It is actually Chloe with the bloody rear. Chloe was the one that was "full term" in December. She has had several calves previously. We have too many preggies to keep up with, I know! She has since gone to the woods. I heard mooing in the...

    Are we getting close?...:UPDATE:

    An update... As of now she has not calved and has been acting normally. Today when I came home, she had bloody discharge and has blood down her tail (she is white, so it is easy to see). I will try to get a picture up. Do you think it's time? Or is that an indication of a problem? That is...

    I'm a bit anxious about this.

    I'll be praying for you and your family (especially for your father). Congrats on the heifer calf!

    Momma calved! ::PICS!!::

    Its a little bull calf. I would say that he is older than we thought as he is grazing quite a bit. We are lucky down here in Oklahoma that the weather has been pretty mild lately. We are planning on growing him up for a year or so, then selling him. Good luck with your calf and I hope it warms...

    Thanks! Momma is definitely living up to her name! Her and baby are doing great!

    Are we getting close?...:UPDATE:

    Amy, Momma (I know, a silly name-- my husband insisted, she was our first positive preg check) was the one that calved this past week. The fat one up top is Kaia Cuerno with no horns, then the second picture is Gretchens rear. Kaia is due sometime this month, but Momma wasn't due until late...

    Momma calved! ::PICS!!::

    For the past few days (Thursday and Friday) Momma was missing from the herd. Momma is a loner, so I didn't think anything about it. She came up yesterday (Saturday) to eat and feed with the rest of the herd. She wasn't due until late March, early April but this morning I looked out the window...

    Are we getting close?...:UPDATE:

    Congrats, Amy! We still don't have any calves on the ground, but most of ours will calving sometime in April. Here is a picture of one of ours that should be calving any day. She is as big as a barn. Sorry about the picture quality; I took it with my cell phone. Here is a picture of...

    Signs of heat in heifers

    Hmmm...maybe she's just being strange. She loves on him all the time, so who knows? I've seen one of our cows attempt to mount a bull before, so I assume she was in heat? I've also seen the bulls following some of the girls around the lower pasture, so I guess that's a good indication. From...

    Signs of heat in heifers

    Ok. Well, I doubt that our yearling is bred since some of our heifers that are older haven't even starting cycling (at least that's what the vet said when we took them a few weeks back). Our second youngest, who I mentioned in the first post, is now about 17 months old (I've noticed her...
