I use soybean meal in my feed. The nutrition content might be similar. I use cracked corn, soybean meal, alfalfa pellets, calcium and molasses. It comes out to 16% protein.
P.s. what is your recipe? I'd like to try oats and beet pulp for mine. What protein % is it?
I have babydolls and I love them. They were expensive but that is a one time price I was willing to pay. Their size makes them very un intimidating. Especially for a beginner. I have never been sorry I got mine as they are pets/lawn mowers and are very good at their jobs. They have sweet...
I don't think you can start a thread like this without posting pics!!!
PS I'm jealous of all you folks with your lambs. I don't know if my ewe is even pregnant and if she is I have no idea when to expect a lamb!
I have two babydoll wethers. They were expensive. I love them. Very sweet and of course they are very cute. They don't really listen to my electric fence unless I get the voltage up over 8,000 volts because of the wool on their faces. I love them though. I wish I could have gotten a ewe...
Hey Clo, you sound like I felt before I got my sheep last year. I have 4 sheep and they share their space with 4 of my chickens. I have a three sided barn. The sheep can go in and out whenever they want. The part they have access to is probably 18 feet by16 feet. I have a permanent woven...
Sorry to hear about your stillborn. With horses if a foal is born dead and the eyes are cloudy when it is delivered it means it has been dead at least 24 hours. It might be the same for sheep. The lamb pics are wonderful. I'm jealous. I have only one ewe that I hope is pregnant.
I'd put mom and baby together just the two of them in a stall in your barn for the first few days. Let the ewe mother up to her lamb. Make sure they are bonded and baby is nursing etc. Then put them back with the fock. If you can make a creep area for the lamb and any others that might be...
I'd call a vet. If he hasn't been eating or drinking he'll get weaker and weaker the longer it goes on..The vet can probably give him fluids with some nutrition in them and he may perk right up. Good luck. Keep us posted.
I have done a little research on breeding ewes as lambs. I am just getting started myself and am not an expert but I have found some good info. You can breed ewes when they are still lambs. The idea is to have them deliver their babies when the ewe is between 12 and 14 months old if you...
Hey everyone. I finally saw my ram trying to breed my ewe tonight. I looked outside and saw my ewe leap over one of the wethers. So I grabbed the binoculars and watched for a spell. Lo and behold she was leaping away from my (finally) lusty ram. This would be just the perfect time for her...
Thanks for the advice on covering the top. But I think it is too high for them to get into and they show no inclination to do so. Also the hay rack serves a second purpose...my easter egger pullet just started laying and she lays her egg in there. It is one of the only places she can leave...
