So I won't keep boring you all, but look at her now. Sometimes patience is difficult when we want them to be healthy right away. She is not quite 100% but looking better every day. We think we will keep her.
So today is day 4. She did a little of the happy dance for the first time today. She is nursing well with no assistance and perhaps pulled her head above her shoulders for just a second today. Will keep you posted. It is slow, but perhaps a little progress. Still hopeful
Thanks you all. We will definitely keep up the work for a while, I just wish I know if she was going to improve. This is one of the challenges of animal husbandry right? Here is a picture to show you what I am talking about. She is the pretty white one with lovely long ears. (Mini Nubian)
I have a newborn kid, born with a wry neck. She was breach and I had to help with a little traction to her legs, but otherwise, no know birth injury. She hangs her head down and can't seem to lift it by herself above the level of her shoulders. She is now 2 days old, nurses well, and seems...
This thread has certainly taken an interesting turn
Put Uhoh back in with the other goats today. She is feeding all babies. One who seems to be the low man on the totem pole is not eating enough. He is the only one who will not take the bottle. We are putting him to teet on the stand...
Things are going much much better. Uhoh's milk from the bad side looks completely normal. I have been supplementing the kids with whole cows milk, but she is now back to feeding them many times a day in short spirts like is more normal. The fact that the two larger kids are not famished when...
Thanks Roll, even someone with a little experience with this is better than me. Thanks for the feedback. Would still love to hear if anyone else has experience that they could share......
We have 2 mini nubians that both freshened 2 weeks ago, both with quads. One is doing grand and is nursing her kids just fine. All are gaining weight and look wonderful. The second is really having trouble.
2 days ago Wed., we noticed that she was off her feed, and was not very happy with...
So far so good. She has not gone down completely yet we even had difficulty catching her yesterday which I take as a good sign. She does not enjoy getting her medicine... She is definitely weak in her hind quarters, but still walking and running when she needs to. The LGD's are taking very...
She is still up walking and eating. Seems ever so slightly better, probably due to the Banamine. Is there anything else that I should be thinking of. We poured concrete in the milking area of the barn today so the barn will actually be a little warmer tonight due to the curing of the...
Just wondering if any of you all have had success treating Meningeal worms in your goats. I noticed one of our goats acting a little bit lame last week after hoof trimming. I just watched it and it didnt seem to get much worse. This past week has been very busy at work and I really did not...
So now my question is, does all of this icky behavior settle down when rut season is over. We had two sweet little 6 month old bucklings until the first doe went into season. Now there is nothing but blubbering and peeing and head butting in the boys pen. I want my sweet little boys back...
Success!!!! Uhoh went into raging standing heat, and Pogo, the older of the boys started blubbering at her. They had a date for about 5 hours this afternoon. He had a bit of trouble figuring things out, but I believe he hit home at least a couple of times. So March 12, here we come. At...
Interesting. Since we separated them back into their home pens, Pogo is very interested in the girls. For the first time he is making little bucky noises, and doing lovely little bucky behaviors. The girls are not interested, but I think Pogo at least is feeling the fall. I am hopeful for...
So I have a little delema and not sure what to do. We have had goats for 2 years, but this is the first year with 2 bucks (young this year) on site.
The Picture. We have 2 Adult does, 2 junior does (7 and 8 months) and 2 junior bucks (5 and 6 months). We have 3 separate pens.
Currently we...
We have a little of it and our goats have eaten it in very small amounts with no difficulty. Not particularly hardy, so once they ate it, it hasn't come back.
I just got my winters worth--50 40#square bales of orchard grass/alfalfa for $7.oo a bale. And I felt very blessed to have found it for that price. My BIL got grass hay for his horses for $4.oo but my goats would not touch it with a 10 foot pole. Choosey little buggers.
Yes, it definitely looks goat friendly. You would need some fencing, but looks like in the spring, summer and fall they would have lots to eat.
Mine just love poison ivy and thorny wild blackberries. Just don't plan on getting the blackberries for yourself any more. :D
