Domperidone and inducing a doe to udder up?

Did you use the paste? I have tablets, 10mg. Interesting about the withdrawal time, according to all the breastfeeding forums, it's fine to take while nursing, and is considered safe in humans. (Mind you, using the dom to up milk production in humans is an off-label use, and thus makes it...

Help with killing off azaleas, and protecting A/C unit

I don't mind if things don't grow there again, as it's right up against my house, and under two huge Bradford pears, so the vinegar suits me just fine. Thanks VERY much for the suggestion, I will start applying it today. It is in a very shaded spot, but hopefully it will work anyway.

    Mycoplasma?

They'll be separate, but I do let the chickens out to free range and they don't always stay in their (large!) net fenced area. If it can possibly transmit to the goats, then the chickens won't be let out anymore. There's probably about 20 feet between the coop and the goats' area, BUT, I do...

Help with killing off azaleas, and protecting A/C unit

They are  The foundation of my house, to be exact, ugh. Our yard has/had piles of azaleas, it seriously looks like God sneezed azaleas all over it! We've pulled one pile of them (when I say pile, I mean it was about 40 feet long and 20 feet wide), and I *thought* I got all of the...

Help with killing off azaleas, and protecting A/C unit

Will vinegar hurt the goats? I may be getting two Alpines next week, so I won't have as long as I thought to kill them off. I'm just concerned that when they grow back (and they will, oh my, previous owners had piles of azaleas all over the yard, we have gotten rid of most of them, and much to...

Domperidone and inducing a doe to udder up?

Did you have any luck with the domperidone? I've just found 2 Alpines, one is in milk with kids, and one had her kids prematurely (they died), and they dried her off last week. Owner says she still appears to have a full udder and I may be able to bring the milk back, but I remembered this...

    Mycoplasma?

My chickens have both mycoplasma S and G. I know goats can get mycoplasmas, is it the same ones my chickens have? (If so, I will cull and sanitize before the goats arrive)

What to have on hand when I bring my babies home?

Hmmm, they can go to hay at 2-3 months? I think the breeder said she keeps them on the sweet feed. I was planning to put hay out (probably peanut, it's popular in my area) and then the sweet feed. Depending on whether I get them this month or next, they'll be weaned. The area I have fenced...

Help with killing off azaleas, and protecting A/C unit

Ohhhh, thanks for the idea of cattle panels! I actually am getting some to enlarge my hog pen next week, and that's a perfect solution! The yard for them is fenced (properly!) with 6' chain link, so I'm hoping that will be sufficient. If I have issues, I'll run some electric around, too.

Help with killing off azaleas, and protecting A/C unit

I have two azalea bushes in the area I'm going to put my babies, I will cut them down, but is there something (safe for goats) I can put on the stumps to prevent them from growing back? Is there a good book, in color, I can take through the fenced area to make sure there are no hazardous...

What to have on hand when I bring my babies home?

I'm getting 3 ND kids, born mid-April sometime between now and mid-July. What should I have on hand when they arrive? They have not been vaccinated or debudded. Jeffers is local for me, fortunately, and I will be using the feed the owner uses. I have my pen/fence/shelter mostly ready, and...

Is this Nigerian Dwarf Buck worth the cost?

I know this is an old thread, and you guys probably already know, but PromisedLand is selling off their herd and getting out of goats. Just a heads up if anyone desperately wanted some of their stock.

Recommend a book about goats, please?

Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up buying Storey's Dairy Goat last night via Kindle. I do own The Backyard Homestead and a book by the USDA about homesteading on an acre or something like that. I've read those cover to cover multiple times! I will look into the others you guys...

Recommend a book about goats, please?

Hi everyone, I'm ready to get goats, and I'm looking for a good book to read and have on hand. I'm looking to get Nubians for milk, not so interested in meat at this time. I LOVE Storey's pig book, and I'd like something similar for goats. (I'm sure Storey's has a goat book, but I want to...

To market, to market...how to get them there?

Couldn't they jump out of the truck bed? I have the topper on right now, but I would think they need to be contained for the trip in some way. Hubby's friend came today, he's going to be taking one of them, and he said he has some kind of box he can strap on his utility trailer that I can...

To market, to market...how to get them there?

So...my boys are around 150lbs (I think, we use the measurement conversion to estimate the weight), and I'm taking one in to be processed on the 24th. The other 2 are going to wait a bit to get bigger, a friend is buying one, I'll take our last guy in once he picks his up, because I don't want...

Winter: better to raise a feeder pig in a barn stall or large pen?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have random concrete all over my yard, one being a slab 8' by 44', probably 8-10" deep, I'd LOVE to get rid of it LOL. Now how do I get around the whole "gotta be penned 100' from neighbor housing"..... On topic, I'm in LA (Lower Alabama!), so our winter is...

    Chocolate?

Can pigs eat chocolate? I have a lot of gluten-free mixes I want to bake up for them, but I'm not sure if the brownie mixes would be dangerous or not, any advice?

    Yeast?

I'm not going to give it all at once (I'm concerned I may have pig-splosions if I did that!), but I did sprinkle a little over their feed last night. Not sure what the difference is between brewing yeast and baking yeast, so I figured I better ask.

How do you store your feed?

Jodie, I actually put an ad on Craigslist after this thread, am picking up one FREE freezer this weekend (doesn't work) and another for $30 that doesn't freeze but still gets cold, guy says there's a leaking line. I may fix the one and use it to actually freeze food in, since I always freeze...
