Yep, keep watching as much as you can! We had a lamb last year that was similar. He was born with not much "will", DH had to give mouth to mouth to get the little guy to even breath at first. Then, he just stood there, did not cry or even try to find nipple. I though maybe brain damage, so gave...
Selling our ram, we only have 6 breeding ewes and don't want to breed father to daughters. He is 6 years old, very respectful of people, can be challenging with soft dogs. Healthy, and has excellent feet, especially with how wet our winter/spring has been. I have more pics of him on flickr, the...
I'm getting so anxious for lambs to be born, was looking at video I took last year, thought I'd share!
Darn, can't copy the link, sorry I don't know how to post it :(
Your sheep are lucky to have found you! Get that wool off them soon. It has gotten down to almost freezing here after we sheared, and only in the 40's during the day, and sheep have been just fine, no shivering or indication they are cold. And, if your sheep are fat, they for sure won't get...
Thanks, and Yep, I will post photos! Had 7 lambs born last year, including one to a first time mother that would not breath. Finally got him going by DH doing mouth to mouth. Now he is our biggest butcher lamb. Too bad we can't keep him as a ram :(
That is the most adorable lamb! If you can, find out if the mother of the lamb was vaccinated at least with CD&T, if not with 8way before she gave birth. Otherwise, I would hope for the best and as others said, vac her with your goats. Congrats!!!
Oh my, I totally disagree with what you were told!!! We are just south of Issaquah, we have 17 sheep right now with only about 3 acres of pasture, the rest is woods. I've have about this number of sheep for 15 years. My sheep had access to all of the pastures, all year, until the year DH decided...
I think the taste depends on the breed too. We have raised cheviots for many years, got them for herding and mowing, not meat. So we usually butcher at a year old because our breed matures slower than some. We've done uncastrated ram lambs and the taste was fine!
Also, we butchered a 7 year old...
So happy I found this group, seems I can't get enough of reading about other folk's new lambs this time of year! We bred our border cheviot ewes to our Clun Forrest ram late, so no lambs until at least April 6 or so.
Question, Is it ok to post sheep for sale here, or is there another area...
