They are more like a zonkey than a mule. Not common and not useful.
We had 3 rams in with our female goats last year and had ZERO geep and not for lack of the boys trying. It is an incredibly rare occurrence and even if conception occurs it's usually not a viable pregnancy and is aborted...
We had a injection site abscess on one of our bucks that was cleared up finally by completely restraining him, scrubbing the absolute tar out of the wound to completely debride it and then applying spectromast which is a mastistis treatment topically. Cleared up with in a week, applying...
My guys give some crazy reactions to shots sometimes. Some yell like you stabbed them with a knife instead of a 20g, some bite their sides, some lay flat out like "ok bury me, I'm going to be dead soon", others are fine and just walk away, some stomp and kick for an hour. It all varies.
We have a yew bush in our backyard. Sometimes the goats get out. They've taken small nibbles of it but mostly leave it alone. I panicked the first time but they've been fine ever since. I think that some varieties of yew may be way more toxic than others.
Another friend experienced similar between pigs to goats. We scraped her barn, limed the floors and bleached every single surface and so far nothing has happened since then.
Also, how quickly did it transfer between animals. Rabies can go as fast as a few days but it is usually closer to weeks/months for symptom onset.
I just am not feeling rabies. I could be wrong but I'm thinking seizures caused the foaming.
How quickly are they going down hill? What is the time frame from initial symptoms to death?
Foaming at mouth is a symptom with rabies but it also comes with seizures.
Friend had 2 goats die and one get incredibly sick with similar symptoms about 2 years ago. 4 in the same pen. 1...
Mmm no. If I mix corn and wheat and kelp in a bucket that is not the same thing as a wheat stalk that gives high fructose seaweed.
It's a silly way of putting it but one of the big concerns with GMO crops is that they have genes in them that are not natural to any species of that plant.
Things to look at.
Temperature of goat.
Eyelid color. Are they pale? Red?
Has anybody had a fecal recently? When were they last wormed?
Any signs of moldy feed or hay?
If you suspect poisoning from plant matter I would be drenching or tubing them with activated charcoal asap. If this...
Also how much wormer are you using? We also had luck with safeguard at about 10-12cc for a 100lb doe for 3 days straight and then again in 10 days. This was against barberpole. A 12 cc syringe that she would get "most" of.
As bottle babies they are prob on target. The times we've had to bottle sheep they were always smaller than dam raised. They're also sale barn culls so my guess is they pulled the smallest of twins, trips etc and dumped them. They don't look thin so I wouldn't worry overly about height...
And that's fine. Just saying that castrated boy hair sheep have 2 uses. 1) Lawn mowing pets 2) meat. That's about it. If you are fine with them as pets, then get them as pets. Not everybody does meat animals, I just wanted to be sure you weren't after them for fiber, because they won't have...
