Help! What's going on with this goat?

....These are not symptoms of pnuemonia....Thare are consistent with a neuro disorder or disease, ie: entero/tetnaus/toxin...pnuemonia would be a high fever, congested lungs and wouldn't have the acute appearance of being here and gone...But rather the chronic look....Pnuemonia would stick...

Should I Put her back in w/ the buck?

I'm not a dairy goat person. That said, if I have a specific show date I would figure back from that so my animal was in peak condition for it. So when is your show date? 6-7 months away hopefully? IF there is a chance the doe is bred I would pen her with the buck for the next 45 days or...

Would you buy a goat who is Neg, but is in a herd with a few Pos CAE?

If I were you and there was any other option, I would find some healthy Negative animals to start your herd. Why start with something you already know could work into a problem? Build your herd from healthy negative stock and you will be VERY happy you did down the road with your new healthy...

    Selenium-E Gel instead of Bo-Se?

I use BoSe... and use it often on anything I think needs an extra boost including, gestating does, 6 weeks prior to kidding, and new kids. I dose at the rate of 2.5cc/100# for adults and newborns get 1/2cc. IMO, I want the full effect and anything less than BoSe May not deliver it...again...

Help! What's going on with this goat?

Did you say she was current on her cd/t vacinations? If she was a small kid, and possibly bottle fed she may have dealt with FKS...Now it sounds like a tetnaus/enterotoxemia issue. If she has never been vacinated you have your solution, but she is beyond the toxoid stage right now. If she has...

    Look what I'm getting!!!

Actually if you intend to build a herd from scratch; Then buying "the perfect buck" is Exactly where you should start.....Most people buy does/doelings then later buy the "right now buck" when their does begin to cycle and they realize they need something. It will be easy to fill your doe...

I think they are starting to build up udders!- UPDATE we have goo

Wait just a minute...Why would you need to put these Low Maintenence goats in kidding pens? I thought they just dropped them where ever they were and went on with their business then the kids who's bellies never even hit the ground, charge after their mothers to begin nursing..... laughed the...

    Question for horse people

Scared=respect...You respect a horse or any large animal with the understanding that they can hurt you, on purpose or by accident. You become comfortable around a horse as you become familiar with how and why he does what he does....then you can begin to be less scared. Anyone who tells you...

Newbie Pregnancy, kidding and afterbirth questions

seperating does and bucks...Most breeders Keep them seperated at all times other than breeding season. I have kept bucks in with does while they are kidding but My bucks are calm and used to being handled. If possible it would be best to seperate them just to eliminate the possibility of one...

Newbie Pregnancy, kidding and afterbirth questions

I'll take a crack at this.... If the does haven't recycled they most likely are pregnant, but there are no guarentees unless you saw "the deed" and then no guarentee she will carry a healthy kid to term... A new buck could very well disturb a heat cycle but usually in a good way, meaning when...

Another question about my slow-growing kids

No its $ 4.50 more per ton than non medicated feed. monensin is actually thought to be a digestion aid...medicated feed is common sense. Coccidiosis is a kid killer, why not try to control it All the Time before it becomes a real problem. All my goats get it All the time, amounts vary but if...

    Taste of Goat Meat

The taste will depend directly on what the animal has been fed and wether or not it is an actual "market Animal" or an older culled animal. A market wether, to me, tastes alot like venison and has the same sort of "texture". I have never tried anything other than a market wether but I would...

Another question about my slow-growing kids

That's what I was Initially suggesting...meat goat are bred to get to market weight in the quickest manner possible. I would guess they have been "engineered" to utilize high protein/fat feeds to their potential, because thats what I want...fat kids at 100 days. If you wanted bigger kids FEED...

    Diagnosis question

I have no personal experience with this parasite, only second hand. If 1 goat has menegial worms there is a good chance all the goats in the herd have them. Ivomec is a good treatment but it has to be given in a REALLY strong dose to be effective. It seems odd to me that it waited to show up...

Another question about my slow-growing kids

I get what you are saying...glad I don't have dairy goats....I can barely handle feeding cull kids for 100 days and then, as meat goats, they still bring a fair price...and that would be without too much feed input.
