I did give her water only because I was worried she would get dehydrated, but I was advised not to because then she wouldn't look for water, but I don't think she is... I need a surveillance camera out in the pen with her!
Her herd mates (another lamb and goats) are all the same age, they all eat hay/grass and drink water normally and weaned fine off the bottle. There are no adults in our herd.
She is eating from the pasture and the hay quite enthusiastically, it's just the grain and water I can't get her to...
My little lamb is 4 1/2 months old. She was a quad and very small when I got her at 6 weeks. I bottle fed her milk replacer lamb gro.
She took a long time to start on hay and grasses, but I cannot get her to eat her ewe ration or drink water at all.
I still give her half a bottle (250 ml) of...
I've gotten a newborn Nubian, born last night. Has had 24 hrs of mothers milk, but was rejected by the mother, so I took her home.
Bottle feeding going fine, diaper changes regular, but I notice she is twitching off and on.
This is my first newborn, and I'm new to goats. Is this normal??
The goat ration I've been feeding says
Crude protein 16.50%
Crude fat 2.50%
Crude fiber 6.00%
Calcium 0.75%
Phosphorus 0.40%
Sodium 0.30%
Vit A 25000 iu
Vit D3 2150 iu
Vit E 35 iu
It says nothing about copper, so it is ok?
Thank you!!
Ok, That's how I have been feeling about her (mother's instincts?)
I just want to make sure my instincts aren't way off when it comes to their health!
I got 2 lambs and two baby goats, we were told they were approx 5 weeks old at the time.... that's ALL we were told about them so we...
My little (bottle fed) lamb (a quad I was told) isn't eating hay or grain or drinking water as are the others her age I bought with her. They are growing and weaning off the bottle, but she is still very small 20 lbs and only taking the bottle three times a day. She shows no interest in trying...
***UPDATE**
NOT CL! Yay!
It's definitely a treatable non infectious infection called True Parella (?) and she is on antibiotics for that.
I'm relieved.
Thanks for the support!!
Have a goat day!
Thanks for your advice!
I need to find a book or something on raising sheep (I have one on goats and it was very helpful) I will get him castrated now, I don't want aggressive animals.. At just 12 weeks he's already pretty big and strong!
Thanks for your reply!
Initially I thought it would be good to get them for breeding... The more I read about it, the more I realized that I'm not set up (yet) to have them separated, and I really don't want to mess with aggressive animals... Having them as pets, is fine, my kids are learning...
I am NEW to sheep and goats!
I have four babies I just bought, two lambs male and female dorset texel cross and two goats, male (wethered) and female, all around the same age, like 10-11 weeks. All bottle fed, we got them 6 weeks ago. They are eating hay and grain plus bottles. Weaning starting...
Thanks-
I think I am over worrying because I keep hearing from people that it's hard to eradicate and "culling" is the best option... Ugh
I noticed it has scabbed over and is just as large (golf ball) so the vet didn't really drain it?
I will definitely get the rest vaccinated if the labs come...
