I know you guys know more than I do about this kind of thing but if they were just born in June and aren't getting any forage, just the hay, wouldn't they need some grain?
We have a buck that bites the doe on the back of the neck when she doesn't lift her tail. I figured it is just normal. Also, what they are talking about when they say ready, flip the doe over pop out her sex organ red or purple equals ready. Anything lighter in color and the doe might not breed...
Breed her, its fine. As long as he's not huge it should be fine. We breed out Dutches to a NZ buck and they do fine. Little rabbits but still fine births.
Yes! Good advice OneFine! Don't over think things cuz it will drive you crazy. Feel free to ask questions. Everyone here is so nice, friendly, and helpful! Start a journal, I can't have chickens or ducks yet so I will need to live vicariously though you lol. Plus I love hearing about others...
My advice for someone around these parts is get a book. Stormy's guide to raising dairy goats is at TSC. Also at the top of the forum is Goat Notes, and the author is a member of the forum, gives great advice and is very knowledgeable. Even though I haven't read her book yet I would expect...
Whoa! That's a lot of hay info!! Thanks so much for that useful information. I think it would have taken me a while to dig and figure all that out. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into that and hopefully it will help someone else too that is new to buying hay!
Awe, I love that story and that you found a comfortable solution! I'm really glad to see how that worked out for you, the goat you love so much, and the nice lady with the beautiful farm! At least you know she will be well taken care of and she will have such a wonderful place to live. And I'm...
You won't believe this and its prolly the worst place to get goats but I got 2 of mine from Canton and the pygmy out of the Lufkin peddler (close to San Augustine). That's so awesome we live so close we can be goat buddies!! Yea!! There's a girl from Tyler here and I pick her brain a lot since...
This tends to be my problem! What town are you in? I'm in Jasper. I have a couple NDs and a pygmy and they did fine this summer. I'm more worried about them this winter cuz I hear its going to be a cold one.
Yes MadCow, it does get a little crazy around here! The 5 year old DS is especially bad about having to clean up after and care for lol. Caring for everything else is a breeze compared to him and a joy more than a chore. I get up at 6am cook him breakfast and get him off to school :bun then I...
Thanks so much for all of the feedback!! I come to this forum and learn so much and because I've been able to learn so much from you all I value your opinions and advise!
Ok, I feel like this is a pretty dumb question, but what kind of hay to I buy? I live in southeast Texas with 3 dwarf/mini goats and I have a couple of different options. I have read on here that Alfalfa is wonderful stuff but we don't have that in our area. Here are my options:
Tifton, Jigs...
