Rabbits (in theory ) may become capable of breeding as early as 12 weeks of age, so separating by gender at 8 - 10 weeks should avoid unplanned litters.

Most breeds of rabbits are considered adults at 6 months old, though some really large breeds may take 8 months or more before they are fully grown. So, depending on the breed, plan to wait until the rabbits are 6 - 12 months before breeding them.

Some people will breed earlier than that, and some rabbits do perfectly well getting started earlier, but for the sake of the animal it is better to wait until they are mature.

If raising for meat, stick with the the NZ. Giant breeds make bones first, for their large frames, then meat.
