Hi all! I'm new and will be back to introduce myself properly. But for now I need a question answered. One of our breeding females injured herself this morning and was screaming in pain, dragging her back legs behind her. We put her down, of course. Not wanting to waste the meat, we decided to butcher her - this was our first time. When we started skinning her, we saw that her pelvic cavity was filled with fresh blood - I'm assuming from the injury. The butchering went well, but there was all that blood sitting on the meat, which turned red from it.

So… Is the meat is safe to eat? We know she was healthy otherwise and the blood was from an injury, not disease. Thanks.

Hey @CMyers :frow :welcome! I agree with the others; wash well and process. There's a lot of blood in the chest cavity of a deer or elk (any animal really) after it's been shot, and it's still awful tasty!
