Is cocciosis preventative treatment necessary if kids are being fed feed with a coccidiostat?

It depends.

Some farms don't need to give it when the kids are on the medicated feed, others do.

If your land is severely infested with cocci you probably would need too.

The best way to find out is to have the fecals run. Do that especially before you sell a kid- you don't want the new owners dealing with a sick or dead goat.

They can most definitely still get cocci when on any prevention.

Okay. Ther vet and I have not seen more than 1 coccidia in fecals so I don't think it's a problem for us. Maybe I could run grouped fecals every 3 weeks for the kids when they're born?

Yep, doesn't sound like you have a problem YET. After about 4-6 years is when you generally start to see the need for a preventive, that is what we have noticed anyway.

I'm not a fan of group fecals personally. One kid might be fine while the other might have a sky high load.

I was doing a fecal on twin does. One looked great on the slide, the other had 10x the amount. Why? No clue. Had I done a group fecal that could have been missed.

Do you do individual fecals on ALL your animals?

Kids are on a cocci prevention. We run kids fecals when we think it's needed and before selling.

I ran fecals an all kids we took to the fair prior to leaving. I worked them all regardless of their low counts, I will probably check them again soon.

Adult does and bucks get individual fecals when we think they should be checked. We know our animals well and we have been doing this long enough you generally just know when they need checked. Usually around kidding and breeding.
New goats get their fecal checked.

The only time I think using a group fecal is a good practice is for Johne's testing.

Just a thought. I don't have any goats, but we had a MAJOR problem with coccidiosis in lambs a few years ago and lost a number of animals. Though I am very vigilant for 'black poo' and will treat at the drop of a hat, the best tip I was given was to daily move around any feeder that you have so that animals are not feeding in an area potentially contaminated by faeces (and Coccidia). Since pursuing this option I've not needed any coccidia treatment in the last 2 years in spite of using the same pasture.
