Is cocciosis preventative treatment necessary if kids are being fed feed with a coccidiostat?
Okay. Ther vet and I have not seen more than 1 coccidia in fecals so I don't think it's a problem for us. Maybe I could run grouped fecals every 3 weeks for the kids when they're born?It depends.
Some farms don't need to give it when the kids are on the medicated feed, others do.
If your land is severely infested with cocci you probably would need too.
The best way to find out is to have the fecals run. Do that especially before you sell a kid- you don't want the new owners dealing with a sick or dead goat.
They can most definitely still get cocci when on any prevention.
Do you do individual fecals on ALL your animals?Yep, doesn't sound like you have a problem YET. After about 4-6 years is when you generally start to see the need for a preventive, that is what we have noticed anyway.
I'm not a fan of group fecals personally. One kid might be fine while the other might have a sky high load.
I was doing a fecal on twin does. One looked great on the slide, the other had 10x the amount. Why? No clue. Had I done a group fecal that could have been missed.
Or just kids?Do you do individual fecals on ALL your animals?
