Hello,
I am getting a mini piglet at the end of the month it will be about 6 weeks or so. From what I have read and what people on the form have told me I should get two.

My question is can two males be housed together if I get two brothers?

Thanks
Mraya

If you get two neutered boys at the same time they should be ok together. We have just one neutered boy and he gets lots of attention and does fine on his own. Is yours going to be a pet house pig?

No these are not pets . I already have a pen out back for them and I plan to spend a lot of time with them.

I hadn't thought about breeding they would be more for bacon, But they should still be treated well.

Oh ok I was thinking a pet because he is a mini pig. If you are going to eat them and keep them outdoors two wouldn't be much more work, plus they wouldn't need to be fixed! We had a group of six together. We didn't go into the pen with them but they loved to have their backs scratched over the fence. I think it depends on the pigs temperament too. One year the group we bought were really friendly and the next they were quite mean.

Because they are small pigs I am thing of letting the graze in my back yard (about an acre fenced) so they would kinda be pets but not. I'll have to see how it goes with the dogs.

Just curious but why are you doing mini pigs for eating? Seems like you're going to end up with very little meat total (quantity) and mostly fat (quality) from what you do harvest from it... :hu

Also two uncut mini pigs may take a while to get to butcher weight, by that time, their meat might have a funky flavor ("boar taint"). Though we did eat our 8 month old Duroc boar and he didn't taste bad.

Well there are just the 2 of us and we don't need a big pig, a small pig would be easier for us to handle.( I hope) the meat is a little fattier but I make my own soaps so i would render the fat. Also the price of the pigs very cheap in this case because we are getting them from a friend.
With this being are first pigs a thought go small.
